Another superb work from horror master William Schoell

William Schoell is truly one of horror fiction's greatest, most underappreciated writers. He can do is just under 400 pages what takes Stephen King over a thousand. I've never read a bad book by him, they've all been triumphs. THE DRAGON is no exception. All the characters are well-drawn, even the minor characters. The hero is by no means perfect or completely sympathetic, but that's by design, not simply bad writing as often happens with other writers. And even the most unsympathetic characters have little portraits drawn of them that make them somewhat likable. The actual horror itself is very well-done, starting out as minor annoyances and quickly escalating. By no means is every horrific bit phsyical, there is horror of the mind and emotions as well. Ka Kuna, the elder god, is truly scary and terrifying, worse than anything Lovecraft ever dreamed up. Like all of William Schoell's fiction, I can't recommend this book enough. It's a steal at any price.

This is one of those books that you simply cannot put down. A team of archeologists find a hidden temple in Mexico with traces of a completely lost civilization, which worshipped a dragon. The beast awakens after thousands of years of sleep (all very effectively explained) and wrecks horror. Awesome book by William Schoell, who should be more famous for his great books: all of them. Highly recommended.
One of the best stories i have ever read...seven times..

Thats right I read it seven times!!! I picked up this book for the first time and had it finished in five hours..on a Sunday night before school the next morning..This book is filled with attractive characters, intense scenes, and one heck of a plot. If they ever made a movie out of this book it would be instant classic. I mean it made Jurassic Park look like a bedtime story. This is one of the few books that I have read without putting down. I almost feel bad that I have only been able to get my hands on four of William Schoell's books...what happened to him? Does he write horror fiction any more? Well most likely I'll end up reading this book again soon and I encourage you to also. It you can find a copy. But believe me, if you do, it is totaly worth it.
