Amazing what you can do quickly with your fingers.

I found the techniques quite handy, and just explaining them to people would amaze them. We learn about number sense.
I had to learn most of this outside of school and was amazed to find many other people who think this way. Horizontal addition, left-to-right multiplication and division, etc., using a Comptometer left-to-right is natural.
You do need to do a little practice, so you look efficient when the need arises in the real world.
